Born in 1966 in Hilversum, AnneMarie Adriaans lives and works in the center of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, opposite the place where Rembrandt van Rijn is commemorated: an enduring source of inspiration in her work.
After a classical education at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, where she studied graphic design, she built a long career as a designer and owner of a design studio. In that role, she worked closely with writers, photographers, filmmakers, and other creatives, which has permanently enriched her visual language.
Today, she focuses entirely on her autonomous work. AnneMarie creates monumental oil paintings of human figures, executed using classical techniques. Her method aligns with that of the old masters: a careful buildup in grisaille, followed by transparent layers of color that give the work depth and intensity.
In her paintings, the human being takes center stage: figures that balance between strength and vulnerability. This tension forms the common thread throughout her oeuvre. Her background in design and her broad experience in collaboration are evident in the composition, the light, and the expressive power of her work.
She has been engaged with imagery her entire life: a dedication that is visible in every painting she creates.
